Since this thread is clearly catnip to the epic fantasy crowd: where are people at on Steven Erikson's Malazan series (Garden of the Moon, Deadhouse Gates etc.) At first I was all-in: incredibly epic fantasy that actually close off plot threads at the end of each book. Big plus! I started lagged around Bonehunters (6)

I wanted to add more here but I think this is a solid summary. I can't remember the rough breakdown but book 1 is awesome, book 2 or 3 are retreads of book 1. Then 4-6 pick up some steam and start moving forward again. Then badness. Similar to original Ender's cycle: Xenocide never happened and never will happen. Cut

Pretty incredible that it's stayed not only relevant but accurate for over a decade.

What's kinda funny is that there is decent odds that 'Bort' might be a bestseller… Either way I appreciate the attention to detail.

Post-workout I caught a segment of her making a contractually mandated appearance for GU2. The TV was muted but her body language was more eloquent than any mere uttered words.

@Scrawler2:disqus  oooo, forgot about Clueless. 10 Things has the clever Shakepearean structure and some great one offs by the 'adults' (You haven't lived until you've heard Alison Janney murmur "Quivering member… I like that") where are Clueless is subversive in a different sense.

Probably the smartest teen movie in recent memory.

Best Timothy Zahn reference ever! I also refuse to acknowledge the existence of any any SW books not penned by him.

That's actually not a bad plan at all. If I had to recommend a sweeping series cold, I would still pick either GoT or Steven Erikson over WoT. But borderline skipping 7-11 does cut out a lot of the slack weight.

What would be the point? I read it, I thoroughly enjoyed it (to the point that I wish Sanderson took over sooner), but either you've already read the damn book to retroactively justify 4000+ pages of WoT or you have no intention of starting the series.

I mentally suffixed Kefka's SNES chortle to the end of that sentence. It actually worked out quite well.

It's always the best when you can pluck a character specialization from the Complete _____ Handbook that gives you a starting +1 weapon.

@avclub-1b8f6a3ae0bbd4c39911fb096055fc66:disqus COUNTER-COUNTER-COUNTER-COUNTER-BUSTER: Does "The Big Hit" still hold up? I remember it being hilarious, Sisko as a mob boss! Double-crosses! Sexy schoolgirl! but I worry that it would, in fact, not hold up.
