Ugh, that whole scene made me actually groan out loud in the theatre. "You like the Smiths? OMG, I like the Smiths!!!"  Uh, yeah, fucking everybody likes the Smiths. It's like bonding over both having seen Star Wars.

That's a good point, there is definitely a shift in style. Can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but I know that his earlier essays are just as funny to read as to hear, but his later stuff doesn't really hold up without the audio element.
