Thanks for sharing, it's something I'm really interested in. I grew up in a really traditional/insular religion too, and left it in my teens, but it really messed me up for a long time, so I can certainly relate.

In a way, I kind of wish they were still a thing. I'd like something that's not quite a cell phone - like where I'm reachable if there's an emergency, but I don't have to be available 24/7 to every single person I know.
But I don't see the beeper making a big comeback in 2013.

"A beep from Kim" is refering to like, a beeper, right? Were those actually popular in 1992? Because I've never heard of anyone carrying one who wasn't a drug dealer, except for this one guy who was in cheese distribution (True story. In 2006, no less).
