Yeah, I thought of Cormac McCarthy too - some people criticize his writing for being flowery, but I think it's beautiful and, judging by his legions of fans, it's very effective.
I think the critics who push so hard for efficiency forget that writing can also be beautiful, or moody, or just take joy in playing with

My pet peeve: when the characters recap the plot for audience members who were only half paying attention. Usually preceded by "So let me get this straight…" or "Wait, so you're telling me…"

I'm kind of tired of perfect teeth even in non-period films. I mean, I get that actors have nice teeth, it's part of their job to keep them that way, but in real life most people don't, and it kind of adds character. I know it's never going to happen, but I want to see some slightly crooked/chipped/normal teeth in

I love the different-rhythms background dancing. It makes me feel like everyone's a terrible dancer, and then I feel better about myself.

I don't even notice that, probably because I don't play an instrument, but holy shit, people pretending to do art in movies is THE WORST. Arg, they're just re-tracing one line over and over on a finished drawing. Why do they have to do it that way? Doesn't it drive anyone else crazy? Why don't they just sub in a real

Wow, I bet the women were super thrilled that they all got to end up with the couple of psychopaths who murdered all the other dudes. Remind me never to travel anywhere by sea…

I never noticed how often J.K. Rowling uses five words where one would do just fine

So I admit I only made it halfway through the Tony Clifton CBB episode. I guess I just didn't get it? I mean, I get the Kaufman connection and all, but it still wasn't entertaining enough to hold my attention for a full hour. I don't know… I've never run into anything that's too meta for me, but I think this may be it.
