Of course the cassette sucked. All those reverb-laden layered guitars would turn to mud on cassette. The Crossing was a record that mandated a vinyl purchase. I still have my LP, and I still have the CD I bought in the late 80's. It was one of the first CD's I bought.

The Crossing is the shit. In high school I had an LP copy of it that I played ceaselessly. I also learned most of the guitar parts. Great stuff and easy enough for a beginner, which I was.

Early animal band
Linkous had an animal in his bandname before there were a bazillion other indie bands doing it. That's worth some cool points, I guess. I like the song in the clip. I never took the trouble to check these guys out til now, though I knew of them. Cursed procrastination. Sad the guy is gone.

Lollapalooza
Foreigner's and Styx's heyday was the early 80's, which is only 10 years removed from the heyday of the headliners at this year's Lollapalooza. This Kansas/Styx/Foreigner show may be some Jurassic shit, but Lollapalooza is Cretaceous shit.

I can't recall hearing any Esquivel song that wasn't a reworked golden oldie.

I have surveyed the works of Alan Smithee and can state authoritatively that Mr. Smithee has better filmmaking chops than Kevin Smith. And Mr. Smithee could have used the work. Kevin Smith will just blow his salary on jelly donuts.

I've gone the other way. My eyesight has worsened as I've aged and I now find the superior paper and printing in hardbacks to be easier on my eyes.
