Except for the very end (say last 15 minutes or so), which went a little too over the top, Black Dynamite was awesome, maybe even sublime. MJW does deserve better than this but, as Wolfman's Occam's Razor indicates, paying the bills is impotent.

I beg to differ. You see, the other raptors and I have constructed a crude suspension bridge to Venezuela. Once there, I shall lie low and assume odd jobs under the name "Mr Pilkington." But perhaps I've said too much…

So Ke$ha= sluts w/ autotune?

I don't endorse Timberlake in general but the scene in Southland Tales where he lip syncs to the Killers made me like him and that song despite my strong bias against both. Given that I am a stubbornly opinionated asshole, that's pretty good work.

Dr. Darkeny, I must say you are either failing to be funny or simply failing. Flannery O'Conner, William Faulkner, Harry Crews… c'mon, read a (Southern) book and step up your vocab.

Jorge- you are correct, sir. Better than Sifu Bator I guess…

I want to hear more about the damn muskrat. What's his origin story? Where does he stand on the capital gains tax? Can we deploy him to win the war in Afghanistan?

I liked Permanent Midnight (esp. Maria Bello) but the sequel would be lame: "Jerry Stahl, sober dude."

Vanderjack is correct- sifu is the preferred nomenclature for a kung fu instructor. Also gwai-lo is the equivalent of gaijin- i.e. round-eyed crack-ass cracker.*

Congrats ba- I feel your pain on committee wrangling. My chair went on sabbatical right as I finished the final draft- over four months between finishing the writing and getting the defense. even then it was pulling teeth.

I have but one thing to say about 70s Captain America:

Valley is 5'11" according to teh interwebs. Put some make-up on him to cover a little of the cragginess and cast that mofo. He's a former West Pointer for gosh sakes- between that and his looks he's halfway Captain America in real life.

Hey Quirk you got In the Mouth of Madness that's Lovecrafty. I have not seen Cast a Deadly Spell though- have to check that out apparently.

Here comes success!

Occurrence is originally an Ambrose Bierce story but other than that I concur with Bob K. Jacob's Ladder remains my favorite of the genre.

I defended last year- it rocks to be done, kids, so suck it up and finish. It required me nailing myself to a chair for 6-12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week from February to June plus post-defense editing/rewriting in the fall. Now I just have to turn the goddamn thing into a book so I can get tenure…

LD, I think you should read the original Frank Darabont draft of the early Arrested Development episodes…

I would try to convince her that despite the fact that I look like an extra in American History X she could bring me to Passover seder.

The Pig speaks the truth- I can only take Chelsea humor in small doses after watching The Soup, but I too would like to get to know her nether regions. Is most curious.

I like LR's New York quite a lot and certainly listen to it more than Transformer.
