I remember reading pretty much the same thing being said about Digable Planets.  I'm sure that it's just the Man spreading rumors.  I think what might have happened with them is that they were disappointed in the black community's tepid reception of their (successful) first album, and some crazy cracker got butthurt…

As a former preacher's kid, I can say that the Presby offshoot First Christian churches my dad was at almost always had some stray southerners, perhaps of the Baptist persuasion, and there were usually no less than 4 different platters of immaculately fried chicken at every "fellowship dinner" to compare.

They are considered compound nouns rather than portmanteaux.  And at least German isn't like Navajo, where one verb with a lot of suffixes is the equivalent to an entire English sentence.  No adjectives and very few nouns either.
