I always associate Bjork's Vespertine with this time of year because its the epitome of a wintry album. The duo of Frosti & Aurora together especially, as Aurora features Matmos' sound effect of stepping through crunchy snow in the beginning

I had the opposite reaction. All at once the amazing cinematography and acting felt kind of forgettable but over a few days I found myself remembering pieces of the film and that made me like it more and more as I thought about it.

See, this is how Jackson I think really misses the mark in the movies. He definitely looks at things in an epic, cinematic way. However, scenes like Pelennor Fields, and the ghosts as a deus ex machina, show how he gets the feel of certain concepts from the book just wrong. For instance, people get upset about elves

I don't know. Every time I tell people I don't like the movies all that much, they reply, "But all the sets! And detail! And hand made armor!"   I seriously could care less that he had an artisan carpenter perfect the door to Bag End, if the script sucks and is nothing like the books, why does all that work even

Elves from Mirkwood are renowned for their ability to shred. It's in the appendices.

Love the Rankin Bass versions. They're so cartoony, which to me aligns with Tolkien's own world - very vibrant and they also do corny songs, which Tolkien does too! And the voice acting was fantastic.
