Sure, but the other villains may have been grandiose figures, but they weren't necessarily public about it. Bester was just a Psi Cop—it takes a long time for the characters to realize that he may be the most influential Psi Cop and at the very least, a leader of a major faction in the Corps. Morden was hidden for

After Jaime Murray's line reading, I think we're all disappointed.

Four weeks ago I was on the verge of the "Why should you be watching Defiance!" review. And it's consistently said "nah, man, I'm okay. You don't need to watch."

As a general rule, I think it's important for EVERY show to give its main characters agency. I haven't ever seen a reason to question that.

Yeah—there was a resistance in the first few episodes, and it worked really well! Then Datak and Rafe made it seem like there still was, and it went nowhere, and now we've returned to the S1 status quo with hotter fascist uniforms.

It's not that it's not New Caprica, it's that it's set up a potentially interesting setting, which has been mined by a lot of art for exactly the kind of drama Defiance is missing, and then totally ignored it. If New Caprica had never existed, this would still be a disappointment.

call it the Masters Of Evil.

Yeah, there were lots of reasons for that. They were rumors, bargains, and lies, but there were reasons.

Well, the fifth season DIDN'T exist. And if you're worried about tonguebathing Sheridan, well, it's a bit late for that now….

That's a parallel that makes more sense. I mean, the whole issue people—who aren't me—have with the Scouring is that it's rising action after the action has fallen. Sleeping In Light is…not that. It's a goodbye.

I have given up on understanding which review gets given priority.

I like Thirdspace as Babylon 5-as-dumb-action-movie. Far better to do that as one telefilm than four theatrical movies. LOOKING AT YOU TNG

It is so totally the opposite of the Scouring Of The Shire that I'm retroactively questioning every time I agreed with you.

Sleeping in Light is one of the greatest finales in history and the other episodes leading up to it are a nice way to say goodbye. I'd say "don't listen to the haters" but I don't even know how it would be possible to dislike Sleeping In Light so I assume I'm hallucinating any negative comments.

Intent and subtext are different things. One is what they say they do, the other is what's done. The former is sometimes interesting but irrelevant when it conflicts with the latter.

I don't care about what's intended, I care about what's explicit. If it didn't show a murder, it wasn't explicit. If you want to argue that it's implicit, knock yourself out. I don't really like The Sopranos.

Bruce may have never existed. Amanda saw an entirely different Wilfred.

Yep. And obviously I think JMS can be fantastic but I think it's equally obvious that he doesn't have the emotional distance from the show to go in a strong enough new direction.

by far the best thing about having Mia Kirshner on a show is her hair. Thanks for taking that away, Defiance.

Wasn't that the one where the Beast showed up? When Wesley whips out the shotgun? I have fond memories of something about it.
