. . . . . .

I was totally like "where's all the juggling?"

I don't know.  "Upstairs" did two things: they called on the red phone during the "we did it" celebration to say that Marty was still alive, and they (supposedly) called to stop the explosion.

I got that all the monsters were actually what they were, if that makes sense.  In other words, the zombies (excuse me, the redneck torture zombies) were actually zombies, as in undead. There is a ghost flying around at the end that has to be supernatural - and the Japanese ghost was turned into a frog through Shinto

I thought Sweden was The Thing or some kinda analogue. Each city/culture has their own way of sacrificing to the gods - this was shown during the short opening with the Aztec, Babylonian, etc sacrificial images.

The thing is, it's actually a scary, jumpy thriller too. I got freaked out of my seat a couple of times, and my girlfriend (the furthest thing from an AVClub media worshipper) loved it for the horror bits.

TMBG always brings a great show.  They try to make sure their audience is happy, they never phone it in, and they do a great job of mixing the newest album, the big hits, and some deep catalog stuff. They also have "Album Shows" where they will either play an entire album, or most of the "extra" back-catalog stuff

It's too late for anyone to notice this comment, but I 100% disagree with this. The concert experience makes it incredible.

My girlfriend has fairly pop & cover-band tastes and I'm kinda weirdo electronic & post-rock. She's been feeling left out, so I've taken to running my music by her before I get tickets. Sadly, nothing works.

Shit, I don't know if it's a devil's advocate thing or some kind of "well, you can see the other side's point of view, too, right?" or what . . . I manage to get dragged into waaay too many of those arguments-even-though-you-agree.

Ugh, I remember that one.
Ugh.

Shhhhh!  Don't disturb them!

And from what I can tell from the first couple of exchanges, they are going to flee to another ignored article's comment session when they realize anyone is paying attention to them . . .

wtf?  And how did you find this?

Same here - I saw it *long* after everyone else.  It was still playing to a packed theater b/c of that extended cut or whatever.

There's actually a lot out there, especially written.  A lot of it tends to be of the "run-down resource-poor" type and a fair amount is short story.  Check out Paolo Bacigalupo (don't hold me to that spelling) The Windup Girl (novel) and The Calorie Man (story, I think).  Bruce Sterling's most recent novel is similar
