Back when they started, they were listed as either "Moss" or "Mos" Eisley on venues around Dallas. I noticed the name because of the nerd factor and because they were supposedly a kiddie band singing Christian-ish rock.

Mr. Wheel, was that in Dallas at the Addison Improv? The story is giving me a memory twinge.

Thanks, I missed that. Gotta go digging. It was a minor wave of shame in the Austin blogosphere. I didn't know it hit further out.

Yes, Pitch-Bot:
This is the comment I was looking for. "Origin Story" is the episode title - so, where was the origin story? And for whom?

Josh's Fugazi story puts something from a Man or Astro-Man? concert in context for me. A mosh pit was starting up and one guy had landed on stage after a crowd surf. Birdstuff said something like "Now, I'm not gonna be all whiny like Ian McKaye and tell you to stop and you're gonna get hurt and stuff, but look out…

My understanding is that's why he started touring with a base player (upright base) just playing random bluesy notes - to keep him level and his paranoid in check.

I don't think this is gone, people. Any music I go to that has an exciting fast beat ends up with a fucking mosh pit. Dan Deacon? Jump up and down, yes. Mosh pit, no. I see the performers give a lot of weird frowns from the stage.

There was a horrible instance of heckling Dave Chappelle here in Austin a few months ago at the Paramount Theater. It completely derailed the show, people were just randomly shouting out stuff.

Yeah, I was totally thrown by Efrim. The music is (almost) completely instrumental - GY!BE totally so. When I showed up a little late to a Silver Mount Zion show, I wasn't sure if it was still the opening act. He was talking in between every song. Weird. And yeah, he was pretty cool.
