1977
My primary memory of the McGarrigle sisters was seeing them on SNL when I was a kid. My older sister baked pepperoni bread that night, and it had just come out of the oven when they came on. To this day to this day I associate Kate & Anna McGarrigle with pepperoni bread.

Mr. Salt,

Buster Keaton in "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini."

I always think of John Saxon as a fighting robot on the Six Million Dollar Man.

The choice is not between young Johnny Cash and old Johnny Cash. We are not going to get any more young Johnny Cash.

I confess I only became a fan of Louis Armstrong after he died. Buddy Holly too.

Rude But Fair, why are you acting like a dick. If it's intended as your shtick, it does not make you stand out around here.

The String-Band Era
Nathan,

Sinatra was a fan of George Jones.

That's silly. I saw two shows on that tour. Pete was loose and brilliant, and yes it was obviously him playing.

It's time to get "Mr. T and Tina" right — this time actually starring Mr. T instead of Mr. Miyagi

Everything old is new again
This show feels like it could have been on the air 30 years ago. The '70s were the golden age of high concept buddy pairings.

self-awareness
Cleese and Adams agree on an ironclad rule of comedy — that the characters in the story cannot be aware of the motivations driving them.

Vanilla Ice is dead?

There was a time when I preferred Cash's version of LBV. He gave it the Cash treatment. Cash always sang with humanity in his delivery, but it was a LARGE humanity — like he was somehow speaking for all of humanity.

Probably the same "dirt" Nabin read in Haggard's autobio.

Animals and "what might have been"
Is the premise that only humans can imagine "what might have been" true? If a dog is nearly run over by a truck, will that dog's heart race? If so, isn't that evidence to the contrary?

"Self Portrait" was Dylan's Fuck You to the mystique of "Bob Dylan." It was indirectly his Fuck You to his fans who supported that mystique, and the critics, of course. And, yes, it was a Fuck You to his record company.

Bob Dylan is not just a great artist, he is one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. Others may disagree, but if they are lucky they will grow out of it.

That's good, I guess. That's exactly the ideal of how these things are supposed to work. Nabin should be proud.
