Great observation! May I add another one?
Rape is only bad if the perp is ugly or y'know, has body odor or bad teeth or something. If the women had been average-looking, the assumption would've been that he'd enjoyed it.

I was considering making the same point, although with no personally relevant experience, it seemed pointless. But I will back you up that this is absolutely still the case.
What are you supposed to do when you're too tired to hike anymore or it's too dark or rainy to go out and do anything cool? Plus, you gotta entertain the young'uns.
But you're correct in that us vacation-DVD-watchers do eat the same when on vacation as at home: we throw something on the grill. Real restaurants cost…
"they have a huge selection of stuff nobody would ever want to watch, and very little else"
I feel this way too sometimes. It seems like every single movie ever made that didn't do much bank at the box office is available to stream. But if you want to watch the quality movies you heard so much about but didn't catch…
Are you sure the cadbury eggs aren't at least contributing to your appetite supression?
Spoiler averted! I've never tasted bedbugs.
I used to think cilantro tasted sort of like bleach, but now I think it's fantastic. Did anyone else ever get that bleach-vibe from it?
I'm surprised you and your friend still have your teeth!
My mom let me eat those, until I finally realized that they were like little cookie-shaped bricks that were sweet, but not really so cookie-like in flavor. Maybe taste test should do a cereal-you-used-to-love-as-a-kid redux and they can tell us how disappointing all those beloved cereals are now.
Mint oreos are my favorite too! Can't say I ever tried the coffee ones.
What an interesting article! It seemed to imply that they were advertising to children. Perhaps Chinese kids are more likely to drink milk these days?
But on a different note, why on earth did they feel the Chinese needed to eat oreos in the same way that we eat them? Isn't it enough to persuade their little 'uns to…
"…Like a cheap grocery-store sheet cake, the kind where the frosting is basically sugarized lard.”
Umm… what did the anonymous staffer think cake frosting was supposed to be made of? Sugar and lard, sugar and butter, if you boil it you can make it out of sugar and corn syrup.
The only logical conclusion is that the…
That was my thought as I read that. How can anyone say that oreos and cake frosting don't taste right together? Decades of experience tells me otherwise!
I don't wish to defend anyone doing unconscionable things in front of their children. I do get and appreciate where you're coming from. But he's Michael Ian Black, comedian. It is entirely possible that he's making that detail about his crying child up as part of his assholish character that he plays.
But if…
I love to hate Jonas Venture. He's a competent, non-pitiable asshole, which is the worst kind. Also, The Monarch. He's a vile human being, but he's also really pitiable for the way nothing ever goes his way and how he's wasting his life hating on Rusty.
So, they took all my suggestions for future "Book vs Film" columns and wrote them up in short form here. I guess I'll never get to read Tasha's take on Lolita. Damn!
Oh and thanks for covering Crash. That is a fascinating movie…
They were talking about successful adaptations… This was successful mostly in that it captured the essential assholishness of the Cat in the Hat character from the book.
I dunno. The subject matter in that one was about on par with Lolita in terms of objectionability and unfilmable-ness. But yeah, I guess that really just comes down to how you define a "successful" adaptation. If "bad in an interesting way" qualifies as successful, then there you have it.
I dunno. If you really love the book, you know you're going to be disappointed by the movie versions. I've only ever seen Kubrick's version, and it's a successful movie only sort of related to the source material. Haven't seen the more recent one. I'm mostly just curious though…
I wondered why I couldn't recall having heard of this when it came out. It must not have been heavily promoted. I went into it with no expectations at all and I ended up really loving it. Also, what @7d8e18dcbb314215486c261cfd28deb9:disqus said.
I like this X100!
