I'm not familiar with Surf's Up, but I have to say that I tried to watch A Scanner Darkly just once and was so put off by the animation style that I cut it off within like, 10 minutes.  I will never know if it had a good story or not.  And I'm just saying, maybe the reason for that is strictly the visceral response of

I'm glad to have found someone else who watched this.  But I didn't love it.  I felt like it was a really dedicated and ambitious failure.  They really did put a lot of thought into making the movie look the way it does and that was cool.  It sustained my interest for most of the running time, in spite of the fact

I was unaware of the existence of this Gackt person until I watched this movie last night.  He is indeed very pretty.  I just assumed they got a pretty Japanese guy to be one of the leads to represent the puppetry referenced in the title?  Seriously, what is he famous for?

If Nathan is still reading these comments, I would like to nominate the Dilbert animated series as a worthy subject for MWOF review.

That's quite a story.
And I hate it when that happens too…

Are you my husband?  Because he is totally obsessed with this Dunning-Kruger effect thing right now…

Self-checkout at the library is a brilliant idea!

So true.  I haven't seen the clips (I'm at work), but what Rabin is describing here is nothing other than the kind of manipulation that typically accompanies Domestic Violence in all its forms.  No one would suggest that it should take a genius for one damaged person to find another one whose weaknesses are

" Also K-Fed is basically exactly the kind of guy Britney would have married had she never become famous."

"Whitney's chillin'
Bobby's chillin'
Let's get high cause we love the feelin'!"

Preach it, Second Officer's Cat!  I quit reading the news a few years ago out of disgust and every time I try to go back to it, I get disgusted all over again.  Fortunately, the AV Club remains a bastion of journalistic integrity.  Or something.

When you realize that news (especially televised news) is actually a form of entertainment as much as if not more so than a source of information, then you cease to be disturbed by these choices.  On one hand, I deplore the fact that advertising runs everything that seeks to entertain me.  On the other hand, I have

It was a strange review.  As a longtime reader of that magazine, I noted that they gave a negative review to "The Matrix" and a glowing review to "Traffic" and years later I see that all the movie reviews are so muddled that it's difficult to tell if they are giving a positive review or a negative one.  My point being

You mean the overall quality of what's on TV hasn't improved markedly over the past two years?  It's all in my head?  Next you're going to tell me that sweatpants sketch wasn't the funniest thing ever!

Man, I've never heard of him before, but this guy sounds awesome!  Too bad I'll never get to meet him ever.

I liked Kung Fu Panda 2.  Better than the original, even.  I like that the rest of the good guys stopped hatin' on the Panda.  I haven't seen any of the others, though, so my opinion may not be worth much…

But that sounds like it would be so interesting!

I love this feature!  Could you do Crash or Lolita?

Hey, does Kim Novak know that this Pogo guy is raping all these Disney and Pixar movies and now even Will Smith is being degraded.  Will the violence ever end?

I often forget how different everything looked when I was a high school student…
