They did that ending in Repo Men and it was an unbelievably hollow ending. Maybe it could have worked, but takeback endings like that usually don't work.

Wtf was with the how did I get here guy looking at each of the family members watching yet there was no follow up. My guess is potential plot line for a future episode.
There was no pretense of it not being anything but knockoff, and that makes it better than it just being a knock off. It means we can sit and enjoy something with deminishing returns because we like the first one, and that's okay.

The fighting, the pettiness, the love, the religion, the gifts, the shopping, all of it. And with enough Christmas themed episodes to make a modern season out of them there isn't much crossover…
