At least his name ain't Al Gamelan.

I think you've made a very good point, man. Al Madrigal's on air persona is also moving in that direction -creating a coherent character-, and that's why I like him and Jessica Williams so much. Or maybe because I'm a millenial latino, who knows.

Thanks @avclub-c08abdfad98ebf82a02023705041633b:disqus  ! I asked without reading the whole interview, but it worked. I've been looking for this show for a long, long time.

Thanks a lot @avclub-620982009915db2a0b4a49e224bad30c:disqus! I've been trying to remember the name of the show for ages, to no avail. You've made my week much happier already!

I take the opportunity of being in touch with British comedy aficionados to ask this: There was a TV show in the 90s that did fake pieces on pederasty, drugs, immigration, and the like. I remember it being outrageous (very politically incorrect) and funny, but I can't recall the name of the show. The only clue I have

Damn, I can't come up with any clever Spacemen 3 quote to follow you up. Got any suggestion?

According to "Ray", a couple of sleepless nights sweating like a pig and one childhood flashback should suffice.

This is completely off-topic… or maybe not, but I've been seeing several new names pop-up in these Q&A's lately. Something natural, given that several of he old staff members have recently left. However, just today I found out that almost all of them deffected for Pitchfork's film site. Not that it's odd or anything,

Se siente bien, es verdad. Me pregunto si te darán "flagg" por escribir groserías en español, como carajo o mierda o hijo de puta.

Me llamo Francisco Black y tengo una banda de rock.

Is a maricone some kind of ice cream?

No, es "máchete".

Was this before or after he went to jail/rehab in the 80s?

Es caca de burro

It will sound like the kind of thing you'd hear from a grizzled newspaper editor in a bad movie, but here it goes anyway: a good editor can make a mediocre writer seem good, but that doesn't work the other way around.

That's an interesting idea, @avclub-c2b1b8ce8d74964b7ca641283ddc2e8b:disqus . The very subjective nature of coming up with a narrative to present all that information, frames "oral histories" as a literary/fictional process.

"La voce del padrone" is one of my favorite albums of all time, @avclub-72c26dade152f790ddc1cb0559c2ba96:disqus . I'm glad that you've found Battiato, he's one of the very few artists upon whom the "genius" adjective is not wasted.

@avclub-011d0b4fe6835bb3d37ef4e0ea713de6:disqus Wow, oh wow. It's the first time I see that name outside a lecture hall. That's why I love these forums, man.

Point taken, @avclub-011d0b4fe6835bb3d37ef4e0ea713de6:disqus   But you could ultimately play the Derrida card and redefine the verb "write" the same way he does with the idea of a "text".

Well that would imply "compiling and editing" is not a creative process. And trust me, it is much harder to write a good oral history than just typing hours upon hours of chatter.
