I hate to be the guy who starts a comment thread with a pan, but this review is seriously lacking. Three short paragraphs (two of them barely breaking the 5-line mark), just offering hyperbolic (but ultimately empty) descriptions of the album's songs. If anything, this reads like a half-assed press release, rolling

Unlike you, I liked the movie for what it is. Though it surely ain't supposed to be "meticulously researched"; so neither do I get what Peter Deburge is getting at. However, a gripe I have and you failed to mention in your review, is that the acting is terrible. Maybe it comes off worse for me, being a Latino, but the

Oh, I see. The number my faulty memory was looking for, must`ve been 130 and not 140. You're right. Thanks and apologies.

119 minutes long? Is this a recut version? Last May I saw a 140 minutes cut in a festival. I loved it, though, of course, it felt like it went on forever… and then some.

I feel you. The whole elevator scene is nearly incomprehensible without some Portuguese history background. It does help knowing how Ventura ended in the hospital/sanatorium too (but I'd say it's less essential than the historical background, since the character here becomes as transparent an allegory for Portugal's

The review is great, though it fails to mention that you need to be familiar with Costa's work and Portuguese contemporary history, in order to take the most out of the movie.

The review is good-ish, but that opening line made me cringe.

A Bolivian set remake of "On deadly ground"? Where do I sign?

I've been a fan of Thug Notes from the start, and though the new shows are taking a while to really get their concepts running, so that the whole thing works beyond the gimmick, they are getting pretty good. The last two or three "Earthling cinema" videos have been truly great. Oh, it may have a rather niche audience,

Agree. His scene in the first movie had a very weird framing. It kinda looked like Jackson was trying to be ominous, foreshadowing things to come between the Gandalf and Saruman. It doesn't help that Christopher Lee's current presence and line delivery immediately suggest something sinister.

I obviously haven't seen the movie yet, but I remember Lee very excitedly commenting on how important his role was in the third movie of the series, around the time the first Hobbit movie came out.

15 minutes! Were you one of the richest kings in Europe or something? For me dowloading a 4 minute song used to take at least a couple of hours, back in 2001.

I'll definitely check it out, it sounds great. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip!

Being very similar in tone and subject, I'm wondering why "Chulas Fronteras" was not included in this collection? Are there copyright issues or something? It's one of my favorite Les Blank films, second to "Gap-Toothed Women".

Kramer used to be a member of B.A.L.L. too. Yep, the guy who produced the whole Galaxie 500 catalog, founded Shimmy Disc and played with Bongwater, among many others. I have a feeling you may like them.

How could we know? Are we still cool?

He played guitar, but mostly bass, on Dinosaur's "Green mind", too.

I can't overstate how much I love the Velvet Monkeys and B.A.L.L.

Discovered by his grandfather Alexander, amirite?
