I adore The Tree of Life too! It truly is an exceptional, unique piece of art.

I found A Feast for Crows the hardest to go through, mainly because I dislike everything related to the Iron Islands and the Dorne chapters are a drag, but I like how utterly off the rails Cersei goes. My favourite chapters are Arya's and Samuel Tarly's, and I giggled with joy every time Sansa seemed to show some…
Yeah, they have guts. That's what I like about Asian cinema in general, they make films that would never get made in the West and paint some uncomfortable stories.
It was really good, yes. I don't make lists by year, because I can never choose a favourite, but 2011 was a really good year for movies.
Yes I did. It was pretty blood-chilling. The Japanese do know how to make a completely crazy movie.
You should dive right in Korean cinema. I love everything from Park Chan-Wook, Bong Joon-Ho, Kim Jee-Woon and Na Hong-Jin. Lee Chang-Dong's and Kim Ki Duk's movies are great, but they don't really fit into the neo-noir/horror category (some of KKD's do though). Korean cinema is a treasure trove.
Do watch it, but know that it ends with several threads unresolved, and some big mysteries unexplained.
She would be great on AHS as she has that weird sensibility, but Ryan Murphy seems hell bent on replacing Jessica Lange with gorgeous guys lately.
Miranda Richardson is such a good actress, but she got sidelined her whole career. She deserved much bigger roles. She should've won that year.
Upvoted for the green-haired girl by a fire bit, because it reads like a dream sequence from a magic realism novel and I love it.
Well, there was Damage with Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche, but that transcends ordinary seducing and goes straight into fucked-up land.
I finally watched Mockingjay and it was soooo boring I nearly fell asleep a couple of times. A waste of good actors, and Liam Hemsworth made Sam Worthington look like Michael Fassbender, he was so tiresome and bland. Poor Jennifer Lawrence, she looked gorgeous (it's impossible for her to look otherwise), but she was…
Of course Snoopy Dogg develops a show for HBO like it's the most natural thing in the world, and David Milch's The Money gets passed on. Has the world gone totally fucking INSANE?
This is easier: wait a new review for a very popular show on this site, lock down the first comment, and then post a funny quote from that episode. Let the upvotes pour in.
I'm behind a couple of episodes on this show, but I didn't expect it to be so entertaining (maybe except for some long dialogues between the German lady and the Evil Scientist Jesus guy from the other camp - I don't remember names that well). And they really got it right with the main actor (Cole), he succeeds in…
It is a bit shaky, but I find her very charming in her answers. I love that she's the go to Japanese actress in Hollywood right now.
Please do dish out. I'm curious, as I love both Korean and Japanese movies.
And how do you possess these insights on this matter? Is there anyone else that can corroborate this? I know Japanese society has its issues with sexism, but I hardly think it was like in Tang Wei's and communist China's case.
I'd say Zodiac is better, but The Social Network is so much more fun to watch, as there's a lot more humor in it.
There Will Be Blood was hands down the best movie that year. And immensely quotable. I still find myself screaming randomly in my house I've abandoned my child! I've abandoned my boy! or I drink your milkshake, thinking about this movie.
