The timing is off on this show. Jack states in 1996 (during their fight) that Rebecca is 40 years old, so she was born in 1956. Supporting characters will always talk about the protagonist, male or female, its just how narrative storytelling works. Having a supporting character talk about something unrelated to the protagonist's struggle would be unfocused and poor storytelling.
