Actually, here in Orange County, CA, there's a couple of cities - Costa Mesa and Newport Beach - where the police and fire unions are under constant attack from the cities' councils. It's weird.

Shit, I've been lectured on how my own country (Britain) works by people who've never left California, including being told that the Prime Minister is chosen by the Queen from a list drawn up by MI5.
Just as an example of the anti-tax mentality, a few years back I was at a friend's chili cookoff lining up to get some food and a couple of women in front of me were bitching about taxes because "they'd only spend the money on teachers".
Hence frozen pizzas being labelled as "gourmet".
As a Brit who was born in 1972, I can attest to this band's massive popularity. "True" and "Gold" were inescapable in the early to mid 80s and their "we want to be rich" thing fitted in perfectly with Thatcherism. They did seem to ride the New Romantic craze a bit, and my Duran Duran-loving cousin saw them as…
I'm sure the four remaining copy editors on the LA Times are ecstatic about the paper having a Star Wars style guide.
Is he doing some kind of promotional tour for it? I saw a bus covered in posters for this thing on my way to work yesterday. I thought, "Hmmm, a Michael Moore doc being advertised in Orange County, CA… good luck with that."
Yeah, whenever I go to see my family in England I have to ask my mum to buy me ground coffee because her and dad live on instant and it's fucking revolting.
NO NO NO NO NO FUCK YOU REDDIT WANKERS
Try reading "Wicked Beyond Belief". It's the story of the Yorkshire Ripper but mostly from the police's point of view. Their investigation was a disaster (they interviewed him nine times and he was only finally caught by accident).
I can see your point, but UKIP had absolutely no chance of actually gaining power. Their beloved leader lost his seventh attempt to be elected to Parliament and the party has pretty much imploded since the election. Their one sitting MP looks closer to defecting to the Tories with each passing week.
Oh yes, those golden rules that all Christians obey all the time.
When exactly did God tell us how to fix our problems?
Fair point about them fronting, but I do have a couple of friends who actually believe (and I mean BELIEVE) that praying will end shootings, world hunger, homelessness and the rest. I'm tempted to ask one of them to cut his finger off and then pray for it to grow back…
After that Planned Parenthood shooting last week one of my friends pointed out that the Republican candidates couldn't condemn the shooter as it would mean condemning most of their base.
It's bringing politicians' inaction and hypocrisy to light, which is a damn sight more than praying ever achieves.
I would imagine millions of white Christians are breathing a huge sigh of relief with the release of the shooters' names.
Yes, but do facts actually matter to people who seriously think praying to an invisible sky wizard will stop mass shootings?
A friend who's a soon-to-be ex-NRA member likens it to the Republican party in that it basically only panders to the more extreme among its membership and ignores everyone else.
I posted the NY Daily News cover to my Facebook page as it's a perfect summation of the fucked up priorities of Republicans and, as a page designer, I think it's a fucking fantastic cover.
