One of the best, most romantic and witty films of last year, one that demands at least one repeat view to get the most out of it. Was lucky enough to attend a screening in Brighton where Cat's Eyes provided the soundtrack live, hope they do it again sometime.

Did you get Aaaaaaaah! over in the US? That was probably the strangest, hardest to shake off cinema experience of my year. British movie, from the same company that did Duke Of Burgundy and A Field In England, It's basically a family drama but set in a world where everyone dresses normally, lives in regular houses but

Rectify, it's only just arrived here in the UK. What an amazing show, and yes, it gets almost no press here either.

They split because their drummer committed suicide. Too devastated to continue.

He does get a lot of stick for that ad, unfairly really as he used the fee to get a decent version of PiL together and on the road. There was no record company or other sponsor offering to finance him so he did a silly ad for butter. Like him or not he's done so much great work that he's more than earned a pass for it.

"Sarcastically I'm in charge." is such a great line, and White's tiny pissed off glance off camera really makes it. May have to watch that movie again now.

Maybe they are using the word in its marketing sense, 'cause that's what pop bands are like these days. This looks like the Josie And The Pussycats movie played straight.

What's extra cool about this is that William Forsche became a make-up effects artist, running off to Hollywood a few years after this recording, ending up working on movies like Critters, Exorcist 3, Elm Street 4, Beetlejuice and Dead Heat.

Didn't that end with a "or did you?" Great line.

Followed by rePrattriation.

I was just reading an old Cinefantastique magazine about that, according to reports at the time they did more than just call the studio head; Lucas and the others took turns to just be on set for a week or so at a time to keep an eye on Murch. I think the studio expected them to step in but they loved and respected

Nice surprise to see this, my early gig going adventures consisted of many nights of Factory Records bands doing package tours, saw The Wake and (the, no disrespect meant, much better) Section 25 loads of times. Dug out my Here Comes Everybody lp recently and it still sounds huge, big washes of synth and, ahem, low

Loved how Gary Cole did this in Brady Bunch movies, he was so upbeat on his end of the phonecall and afterwards you'd find out he was getting terrible news. Cole sold it everytime.

Hell, I'd settle for Revolver.

Coincidentally I've just been watching a lot of Battlestar Galactica (the original is out on Blu-ray in a few weeks, got review discs), Galactica 1980 is included and it's pretty wretched stuff, it seems to change almost every episode, like it's being memo'd to death. The original series is still a lot of fun, often

I saw this at Frightfest allnighter in London last week, G was one of the hits of the selection with the audience - it's all much higher standard than the first ABCs. Worth mentioning too that all the directors were given the same budget of 5 grand, quite amazing the variety of results with such limited funds.

Animation always gets me, I can sit stone faced through almost any live action but Kenny's one line in the South Park Movie, The Iron Giant's "Superman" and Mrs. Ladybird coming to the rescue in James and The Giant Peach have all had me blubbing in public.
Speaking of Kate Bush (as Jason did in the article), I went to

A boy band with a girl in.

Her New Worlds lp is a bit of a lost indie guitar classic, she's doing more electronic sounding stuff now under the name Sylver Tongue, it's on the youtubes, got a great song called Creatures.

To amend your end note about its availability: There's a boxset of blu-rays of all six of Tati's features plus a disc of shorts out in the UK in a couple of weeks. I finally got around to watching Trafic the other night, superb.
