sorry for the wasted post…i just really didn't want to see a (successful) 'first black princess' firstie. sigh.

nothing
much to say about this.

Thanks a lot for the response. I guess I just have to get over the idea that having separate biological bonds in any way lessens the value or uniqueness of adoptive bonds (which is pretty obvious in retrospect). Anyway thanks again!

Thanks for the interesting article Todd. My wife and I have always talked about being open to adoption, but the feelings you describe are actually exactly what would put me off of the idea of adopting a child.

Hey Scott,
How can you have such derision for the apocalypse porn of 2012, yet repeatedly defend torture porn like Hostel? Couldn't most of the same arguments be applied to both (gratuitous violence & death in the name of entertainment), as well as the same justifications for their value (reflecting anxiety over the

Agreed. Speed Racer is the bomb and I'm glad it's getting its cult due.

It's VERY good. Absolutely hilarious. Also uncharacteristically sentimental with lots of great character moments. I actually kind of teared up a little at the end.

Hmm…
No Intervention? That doesn't seem right…

I agreed with Todd's essay too. In general, he seems to be the most thoughtful and level-headed of the TV Club reviewers, even when he's writing long and involved reviews of pilots that no one really cares about just to say that they were alright for what they were. I respect that.

Yeah I agree. The problem was Natalie Portman. None of her comments were remotely interesting or clever. There were multiple shots of her just staring with weird expressions on her face during dinner, and all she could manage by way of personality were a couple of college-freshman-level dick and drug dealer jokes.

Yeah I remember that too, but I think she just made them portray a different race than their own for a 'Got Milk?' ad with some babies, so this 'mixed race' thing is totally original.

Theory
Hmm, I'm not really buying your theory for why Whip It! didn't do well. I saw several prime-time trailers as well as posters and ads everywhere - from the objective standpoint of marketing, I'm sure its target audience was aware that this movie was coming out and when. And they had every reason to think that

Just a thought…
I thought the term 'dramedy' was invented for shows with just the semi-dark, wryly funny, character-driven tone you described (e.g. Hung, Nurse Jackie, Eastbound & Down, etc.). Are any of these shows really billed as straight comedies?

The AMC 'Prisoner'…
is it going to be a straight remake? i.e. will watching the original series and/or reading these write-ups make it redundant to watch the new version? Or do you know something we don't that's led you to believe that it'll add to the experience?

Can't believe I'm saying this…
But I strongly disagree with this review. I understand if you didn't like the album, but saying that it sounds just like their other two? The production is completely different and the songs are slower and darker…if there are basic similarities in songwriting, that could be cause it's

Yeah that's a really good interview, insightful stuff. He also says that Futurama was his favorite job ever so it must be a particularly stinging slap in the face to be recast.

My 2 cents
I'm getting married in exactly 2 weeks…we spent forever trying to pick out a first dance but finally went with 'I Will' by the Beatles (I was originally pulling for 'Your Precious Love' by Marvin Gaye, which I think would've also been great).

It took me a few minutes too. I think it should read "…put THROUGH take three or four…". If I'm right, they'll fix it then delete these comments (which will then be irrelevant), and it'll be like this exchange never happened.

I don't get it…
Not to be a hater, but why do people like Anna Friel? Her aggressively flat and monotonous line readings in Pushing Daisies were the worst part of that show (which I love), and she's not all that lovable or attractive, particularly next to Kristen Chenoweth. Maybe it's just me…is she any better in

I'm going to go out on a limb and say The Lord of the Rings movies were better than the books.
