Given the themes of Rose I'm starting to suspect she might have been one of the very first gems created on earth, sort of a super prototype, so to speak, to test out the waters. Her being more closely attached to Pink Diamond, if not built to resemble her, makes sense if she was made to be the cornerstone of the new

Homeworld doesn't seem to deal with many major threats post Rebellion, presumably Rubies are expected to just go where they're supposed to and not meet much resistance, much less clever adversaries.

"Hey, don't be like that." Let Garnet adopt all the Rubies please.

There was something delightful about the way Lapis was animated with that tambourine. That slow careful circular motion…. I don't know what deity they sacrificed goats to in order to draw hands that good, but the end result is regularly awe inspiring.

I was hoping she would jet off into space and take the revolution to Homeworld, leaving her estranged friends to protect earth. Someone needs to start rabble rousing among the lower classes. Vive la revolution!

The only gem I would trust to be able to identify physiological gender differences in an animal they probably haven't encountered much before is Pearl, and that's only out a sense of pedantry. If Steven saw a lion with a mane and started referring to it by male pronouns, I think the rest of them gems would shrug and

Pearl copies outfits she's seen, we see that in the beach party episode. Faced with the need for a flightsuit, it makes sense she would reach for the first one she remembers that fits with her Aesthetic, and ignore the diamond because either it's too much trouble to change it or it doesn't matter, Pink Diamond is gone.

Given that Blue Diamond seems to have run the pretty side of things, and Yellow Diamond is military, maybe Pink Diamond was growing gems in general? White Diamond seems like the scientist, so that would round things out nicely.

Jasper and Bismuth Redemptions 2k17. They can be the new Lapis and Peridot. (ie, Jasper needs a lot of redeeming, Bismuth needs less redeeming and more calm down time/a hug.) and live in the Lighthouse, since letting them near Lapis and Peridot would end with some fatalities.

Peridot not so helpfully yammering on about all the ways to make a bad gem was both adorable and cringey. Classic Peridot.

Like I said, long shot *shrugs* but now that Pink Diamond Is Dead isn't a way out there theory anymore, I need something to cling to

There is a mane in which gems or shards thereof can hide. Plus, female lions can grow manes. It's a long shot but it sounds fun

*High fives*

Sorry (notsorry), if it's any consolation I'm actually really hoping she turns out to be Lion instead. Someone really sold me in these comments sections.

Okay, that was a rush. The spoiler quest failed about two days ago, I knew something happened to Jasper and it was bad but I still really had hope Steven would save her. At least we got some exploration of her character first.

I'm back and I'm ready for the high fives. Pink Diamond is mcfreaking dead.

Female lions actually can grow manes! It's a weird sort of phenomena that is usually accompanied by some other changes in behavior.

Exactly, which is sort of the point of Steven Universe's functional character designs. The gems are made to be a certain way, and that shows in both personality and body type. But even within the story and away from Homeworld they still fulfill their archetypes, Lapis is the mysterious waif, Rose is the soft maternal

Oh, I know, and she's clearly friendly with Garnet, I'd just love to see more in depth exploration into Bismuth's ideology. The upper crust are bad, but Sapphire's fine, where's the line? How redeemable are, say, the Diamonds, theoretically?
