I thought the sentry gun sequence was a quick and efficient way to illustrate how outnumbered the marines were/how many aliens were infesting the colony. You let your imagination fill in the blanks with the rapid fire screeching of imploding xenomorphs.

I sorta disagree with giving demerits to both "Aliens" and "The Abyss." It's not like after 20+ years we don't know what's going to happen in "Aliens." The title kinda says it all, if paired with the knowledge of the events of the first film. One could make the argument of spoilers, but there's this thing called the

I think this is a fine idea. I hope it works out. And when it does, expect dozens of kids to be freestyling near the water fountain (if there is one).

"Auctioneer (Another Engine)" is a highly underrated song from "Fables" if you ask me. And you didn't.

A point about Costello's "Veronica." It was about his grandmother. That adds an even more pointed touch of sadness to the song.

I'm assuming the above is snark (Really? Here? At the AV Club?), but for those who aren't historians, John Paul Jones was the first (or one of the first) decorated US Navy Captain. Whether or not he played bass is up to historical debate.

The more tributes to MCA I find, the sadder I feel for the loss. This one was pretty cool and very appropriate in honoring his talents, however.

Tank in the "Matrix" sequels. Your forgetting him, especially since his character was so vital as the link between the Matrix and the Real World, seems like an egregious omission.

Something about a surge in an artist's sales/popularity immediately after their death strikes me as crass somehow. Can't put my finger on why, but it does.

I remember seeing the "Fight For Your Right" video as a kid and thought it was so goddam funny, esp. the last scene where the nerdy guy gives the thumbs up after the Beasties trashed his place with their antics. Still a fun song to sing along with your buddies, esp. if you're stuck at work. It's quite amazing how

An addenum: AVC must now create a list of one GOOD thing in otherwise shit-tastic series.

Of all the iterations of Marvel's "Incredible Hulk" TV and movies, the one starring Eric Bana is TOTALLY UNWATCHABLE. I was freakin' high when I watched the first Hulk movie and had to turn it off. Why? Because even in my stoned-ass mind, I found it TOTALLY UNWATCHABLE.

Another good snare intro is the lead off track into Eddie & The Hot Rods debut album, "Teenage Depression." "Get Across To You," begins with a rapid-fire volley of a snare roll that quickly crescendos from soft to big in a matter of four bars until the jangly guitars complete the song's urgency.

Speaking of Led Zeppelin, you can't deny the power of the opening drums to "When The Levee Breaks." I know technically the beat starts with the bass drum, but what's one beat? That monstrous boom-whack-boom-boom-boom-whack is iconic, and has been the most sampled drum track in the history of pop music, from the
