Umm…Doesn't the land down under have public domain? Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree is like 70 years old. Didn't any royalties grease the wheels of the estate when Business As Usual went quintillion platinum?

Still, I'd take this over top 40 radio any day of the week. At least is sounds entertaining, and a modicum of thought went into it. No-one's gonna make huge coin off this.

It's a shame that Disney, which has been one of the stalwarts of studio-system run production companies since forever, has quickly succumbed to Hollywood horseshit. The House Of Mouse was often derided as being so old fashioned, however its results did work. The last real money-loser was "Pocahontas," and only

Did I misread something, or did Sterling Morrison get no shout-out for his particular inimitable, crystalline fretwork? You want a good example? "Foggy Notion" from the 'VU' compilation.

Sigh.

Madonna does not act.

I hear ya.

Damn it all. No new Blur album then? Nowadays, we need some new, quirky, defiantly British pop music on the scene. Anything to get Adele off the radio for a while.

I would've rather been shaken down by some thick-necked wiseguy than be at the receiving end of a Mike Wallace interview. You couldn't pull anything over on that guy. Pity the poor corporate exec who had to explain away his misdeeds to Wallace on an episode of '60.'

These were two of the best TZ episodes ever.

Demon dawg of crime fiction.

Steig Larsson, dude, the most recent uber-successful dead writer.

In a word: ?

This is kind of obit I hate to come across; the kind you read and your stomach goes cold. We've lost another criminally underrated writer, USA. Maybe now you'll go out and read a few books from Crews and knock Larsson of the bestseller list for a time.

Anyone ever notice how closely Elastica's signature tune "Connection" mirrors Wire's "Three Girl Rhumba?" I knew they took cues from Wire, but the girls' tune was creeping up on plagiarism. Just sayin'.

Ditto "RoboCop." Hell, the title alone…

Stray observation on "Total Recall": never thought about Verhoven's oeuvre that way before. Dumb with a purpose? I guess so.

A gateway album of the first water, and the movie also. It's where I got my first knowledge of the glory that is Stax records. People remember more about the music from the movie than the movie itself. Hell, the music was the movie, with a clutch of great one-liners attached.

Lousy with spoilers, so be warned.

This was a powerful film. Informative and passionate. The first time Washington was robbed of a Best Actor oscar. And Lee a statue too.
