I'm not a metalhead by any stretch, but I do like Dio. His presence radiated a feeling that is often absent in heavy metal music: fun. With his wail and unbridled enthusiasm, Ronnie James Dio injected some much needed, non-ironic fun to an otherwise overly serious, self-important rock genre. Off-stage, he seemed just

Indeed, but Stevie was naturally talented, and then worked hard at perfecting it. Most just have to work on it. Wonder is like Astaire; if it seems easy, it requires both hard work in tandem with inborn talent. It just doesn't LOOK (or SOUND) easy. That's where art and craft collide and create something near

And to think this was my first stream back into the AV Club's Disqus after two years (sling pies thisaway).

Who said it was a good idea? And I never saw "American Psycho." But your point is relevant. Genesis was much more interesting and alluring with the classic Banks/Collins/Gabriel/Hackett/Rutherford lineup. Then again, a fun pop song is a fun pop song regardless, even if it'll never shut down "The Lamb Lies Down On

I never knew what all the flap was about Genesis going pop; they'd been working that way for over a decade since Peter Gabriel left the band. Yes, "Invisible Touch" is a dumb, disposable pop song, but it's a FUN, dumb, disposable pop song. And the video seems to reflect the remaining bandmates' sense that it's all a

Wait. That show's still on the air…?

Queen's "You're My Best Friend" is the nicest pop single ever. Keyword: nicest. From my experience, "nicest" is not the adjective prominently used for most rock singles. Hell. That's unique!

I did find "Teeth Dreams" a tad off-putting also. I don't know if it's Franz Nicolay's absence that still tears into me. I found "Heaven Is Whenever" to be good listening, but "Teeth Dreams" seems to be dragging that sound a little thin. That and "Dreams" was mixed really loud, too.

I'm happy to have the TZ reviews coming in regularly this summer. But I'm also sad it's the last season. The reviews have been smart and well-written. I can only hope the fifth season will deliver more of the same.

Grant was really funny in "Aresnic and Old Lace." I think it's one of his signature roles. Who cares if he didn't like it? Couldv'e fooled me.

I may not be alone in this thinking, but the only sound reason "The Departed" won Best Picture in 2006 was for more or less out of apologizing for shirking Scorsese all those years (this is not say that "Departed" wasn't a great film, but Marty's Best Picture/Director accolade should've been received [mostly in

"…Now take me to jail."

Very good article. I too have a fair share of LPs, but my CD/iTunes collections is far greater in quantity, if not quality. I'd like to own more LPs, but logistics seems to prevent that. Even if you're not an audiophile there is an undeniable sound quality difference between analog and digital records. Hard to say

Here's one, and boy is it superfluous. Why, unless you read the sleeve you would've figured otherwise, but the Stranglers' "(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)" takes the taco for me.

You know what movie of recent years had a great montage? Towards the beginning of Pixar's 'Up,' telling the audience all they needed to know about Carl and Ellie's life together in a matter of minutes. That's a goodie.

Y'know, I've been to a few stand-up gigs in my life (even tried out a little myself at open mics). The one glaring thing about a heckler I don't get why they don't get is that they paid to see the comic, just like everyone else. If they're dissatisfied with the show (and that's being polite), just fuckin' leave. Why

I'm glad the '25th Hour' monologue made the list. That's all.

There are always going to be disagreement and omissions from lists like this, but I hope "The Fisher King" is still somewhere on the list. It's easily the most accessible Terry Gilliam film, and that counts as something significant.
