I kinda disagree. I think the DA shows were more about defining their own worlds and characters instead of being too clever by half (and I love the WB shows). I wouldn't say there gag-based; they're more insular and more creative, in the sense of being their own thing.

Hmm. It depends on your threshold of terribleness. Ducktales and Gummi Bears were mid-80s, and they hold up, DT more-so than GB. The Wuzzles kinda doesn't, but there's some semi-funny moments in it.

I assure you, it does.

Well, the Timon and Pumbaa cartoon was legitimately excellent. It reminds me a lot of the current Penguins of Madagascar cartoon - taking characters from a famous movie franchise and doing whatever they fuck they want with them.

It also might help if you're from a middle-class WASPy upbringing. I'm not sure that this film was big in the minds of inner city, lower-class kids.

There's a few Christian based shows that are legitimately great besides VeggieTales. If you can find Little Dogs on the Prairie, watch it. It's really damn good.

Scooby-Doo is an oddball. It's not a good show; in fact, most of the various versions of it aren't that good (A Pup Named Scooby Doo is okay, but that animation is atrocious; the new Scooby-Doo show is actually pretty good). But it has such a strong support of fans, it's really weird.

As I eye through the comments, I realize there aren't a lot of cartoon watchers. Did no one really spend their childhood eating up Saturday morning cartoons and Disney Afternoon/Kids WB fare?
