Wilkins: excellent review. No offense to the AVClub, but I'm finally glad they found a reviewer who seems to enjoy cartoons outside of "blah-blah-blah it's for kids but has adult references". Any chance they'll peg you for MLP recaps? Maybe Regular Show?

Right, but that wasn't the criticism of the first quote. He specifically is pointing out Perry's unwillingness to broaden his audience, despite the general belief we should. It would be like asking, let's say, Lena Dunham or Amy Sherman-Palladino to broaden their audiences, when they're clearly speaking to a specific

That first quote is interesting. Generally speaking, isn't it frowned upon when directors try to broaden their audiences?

They are hilarious in Aquabats. They're almost tilted at, like, 40 degrees - it's so ridiculous that I love them. Same in the original Batman movie.

Video game portrayals are pretty egregious in films and TV. Aggressive button mashing, exaggerated body movements (sans motion controls), making verbal noises.

The ADR stuff is particularly obvious in shot/reverse shot scenes. The reply from the person not facing the camera is completely off, dialogue AND sound wise, like it's coming from another dimension.

I'm peeved at the "little girl laugh." Most notably used in horror films, when the protagonist walks into an empty school or playground, there's this annoying creepy echo of little girls laughter - and it's the same ALL THE TIME. They'll use it on crowded children scenes, too, usually to bookend the beginning or end

Wow, Law and Order: SVU is pretty good today.

Gravity Falls definitely has a lot of potential. It's also a really unique and ballsy show to have on Disney. At 9/10PM.

So fucking glad they stopped that. It's not on their newer films.

Batman Jesus is correct. A New Hope is cheesy (Luke and Leia barely react when their village/planet is destroyed), but it's light and pulpy and fun. The prequels don't even BOTHER with being pulpy, which makes the shit dialogue even worse.
