That's sort of the problem with most fate/destiny tales, and which I generally find them weak and pandering. Once the hero learns of the prophecy/destiny of his role "in all things," everything else is pretty much people kissing/saving his ass until he or she -gets- it. Children's entertainment is notorious for it,

I kinda like Hart's stand-up, but that may be because of so many years of black comedians doing the same exact act ever ("beat yo' kids, white vs. black people, LOL black women, etc.") that it was extremely refreshing to see a comedian that plays up his shortness and weaknesses, and generally the crazy shit black

It was such a bizarrely great scene, too. Think about it. Who fist fights in an office? Sterling made the threat a few weeks ago, but it was more shit-talking and controlling and empty.

@Murc and @avclub-92a4841c9f86965effbc29fa6eae9f77:disqus  - So over on TV by the Numbers and Cartoon Brew, it's pretty clear that Nick, CN, Disney and The Hub's main demographic is boys 6-11. The post-episode rating writeups always focus on that.

@avclub-454a7bfd685393329597fdb7a92b7969:disqus I'm more willing to give it a benefit of the doubt. The ending was weak but the parodies were so well done that I ended up enjoying it - or at least the first half. Pinkie's a… tough character to use/like, since she's essentially an instrument of chaos. Use well and

Temple of Doom is exactly 1/2 of the worst comedy of all time and 1/2 the best pure action/adventure sequence of all time. For that I give it props and rank it slightly less up still up there with Raiders/Last Crusades.

I should have scrolled down ONE damn inch.

The more I watch this, the more I realize that Stan is slowly becoming his father.

That raises a good question - why not release the tie-in game with the DVD/Blu-ray release? If you're planning a tie-in game, instead of rushing for the theatrical release, give yourself an extra few months for the DVD release instead.

@avclub-997c221538094d134659141cf61d51e3:disqus  The mother wasn't alcoholic per se, but the show implied she drown her misery in drugs, alcohol being one of them, prescription meds being the other set. Of course, then never showed it directly, but it obvious in a Hays Code kinda way.

I don't think anyone is discounting how deep AT has gotten in expanding the world or the characters - it's absolutely true. I enjoy AT quite a bit, and it's always interesting to see how Ward explores a coming of age tale in such a creative and exploratory way.

Pinkie hasn't always been that bad, so I totally understand it. It's weird to note how… silly it's gotten, which isn't a bad thing, but a far cry from it's cute-but-straightforward direction from season one. I don't know about neutered, though; seems the general assessment is she's WAY over the top.

This is the My Little Pony thread

Well, to be clear, Helga wasn't the neighborhood bully - Harold was (also, he was Jewish. When was the last cartoon you watched that explored the Jewish faith!?) Helga was more of a tough girl from a crappy home that found romantic solace in Arnold.

I absolutely disagree with this statement. Regular Show has been increasing the character development quite a bit in the last season and a half. It's incremental and small, kinda like how Mad Men does it, but there's definitely depth there.

"Hey Arnold! was about a kid with a football-shaped head to went to public school and got beat up by the neighborhood bully Helga."

I've been late to the Ship-O-Meter for a while, but did you address that one episode in Season 2, I believe it was The Library, where for some reason they storyboarded an extreme close-up of Toph's barefeet? It was a weird angle to use and I was pretty convinced that there was no other reason for it BUT to be vaguely

@avclub-454a7bfd685393329597fdb7a92b7969:disqus So in retrospect the first half of the season wasn't too bad, although after the general enjoyment of season 1, it seemed like a huge downhill slide. The show appeared to be going back to the simple-stories well again and spinning its wheels a bit (Pinkie taking care of

@avclub-454a7bfd685393329597fdb7a92b7969:disqus I'm glad I'm not the only who thought the 2nd season was pretty atrocious at first. After the Discord episodes, the first half of the season was pretty bad - the low point being May the Best Pet Win, which single-handedly was just a terrible piece of television in

@avclub-749a8e6c231831ef7756db230b4359c8:disqus I'm not sure how strictly isolationist Yale and Harvard is, although it seems they're more or less distinct merely by its reputation. There's still quite a bit of understanding, more or less, on how Yale/Harvard/other Ivies work, if through pop cultural lenses or with a
