The Darwyn Cooke Memorial Reread: I started DC: The New Frontier last night, but this review of a lackluster Catwoman book has me determined to reread Selina's Big Score next, bumping The Spirit down the list. After that, I have the yet-to-be-read Superman: Kryptonite hardcover I picked up on FCBD.

"Of course the whole third act needs to be rewritten—they're losing the war?! Excuse me?! It's too down-beat!"

I also read The Caped Crusade in the last month, and Erik summarizes my thoughts on it as well, albeit more diplomatically. (Obligatory 'Fuck Bob Kane' comment here.)

I don't know whether to credit it to Hickman or Gillen since it appears in both Secret Wars & the Siege mini (though I think it's better executed in the latter), but Thanos' question to the Thing was the most exciting moment in a comic book I've seen in years:

I got the Parker books on Comixology during their Cooke sale, but damn, that Martini Edition… Every time I hear people talk about print and physical media being dead, I think of books like that, and laugh.

It looked like a half-opened pudding cup.

I finally got to my LCS last night, but only managed to read Future Quest #1 of the books I bought. It was just what I'd hoped for.

Not gonna lie, I teared up just typing it.

"They sing no songs in Hel, nor do they celebrate heroes. For silent is that dismal realm and cheerless. But the story of the Gjallerbru and the god who defended it is whispered across the Nine Worlds. And when a new arrival asks about the one to whom even Hela bows her head, the answer is always the same…

"And worst of all, I see the desperate hope of the one man who might yet stop it turned to ash and cinders by a single bolt of lightning.

If it's any consolation, I trade-wait Astro City.

You should—Bandette is great! If you like Tintin & other adventure comics (or even just the idea of Tintin & other adventure comics), Bandette is like that while also being light, charming, clever, & funny with fantastic art.

Won't be getting to my LCS until tonight, but the planned haul is:
- Spider-Woman #7
- Lumberjanes #26 & Special
- Goldie Vance #1-2
- Future Quest #1 (Not gonna lie, I'm inordinately excited about this one—1 part vague nostalgia, 2 parts creative team.)

Hot diggity damn, we've got another live one! #SpambotSingularity

Also that time she rapped on SNL.

I regret nothing!

Maybe that's because you are, as we say in Latin, a "dorkus malorkus."
