Daaaang. Firefly's actually my least favorite Whedon, but there's no universe that could see me placing Dollhouse on top of the heap. The first five and the SPOILER Boyd twist alone kill that possibility.

Have you sen the unaired Dollhouse pilot? I like Serenity, but I think it's kinda long. Dollhouse did it in half the time, and hit the thematic stuff very, very hard. The conversation between Boyd and Topher about ties is a favorite.

Kaylee. C'mon now. How is this a contest? Maybe Kaylee and Zoe…

@avclub-f506ac7dcf7d89f4d3840fdb0924b5d2:disqus Oh yeah, totally forgot about them. Worst part is that Obsidian was already gay, so they've gotten rid of one gay character by creating another. Zero-sum game.

Kinda bugs me because, as someone elsewhere in the internet put it, he's the fifth most important human Green Lantern on an alternate earth. He's hardly an iconic character like they were promising - there's still four heterosexual Green Lanterns with three books of their own and appearances elsewhere, as opposed to

It really doesn't develop into its own thing until end of season 1/early season 2. Season 2 breaks the procedural format somewhat and makes it into a more thematically-focused show.

Someone upthread pointed out that the Ray/Shoshanna meet is a pretty accurate reflection of the Charlie/Marnie meet. Not sure what that means…

Wow, I missed when she said she hadn't even watched the episode! Her posts have kind of started to dissolve into white noise when I look at them.

@avclub-4ffb0d2ba92f664c2281970110a2e071:disqus How so? You characterized her above as "the oversmart main character," but I'd argue that that's the precise opposite of Hannah; she certainly thinks she's oversmart, but she doesn't seem to understand how the world works, and that's the source of a lot of her problems.
