@avclub-4ffb0d2ba92f664c2281970110a2e071:disqus How so? You characterized her above as "the oversmart main character," but I'd argue that that's the precise opposite of Hannah; she certainly thinks she's oversmart, but she doesn't seem to understand how the world works, and that's the source of a lot of her problems.

I think (don't watch either) that the writers here usually get screeners, so the reviews go up five minutes after the episode ends. But tonight they didn't get a screener, so they had to write the reviews after the episode ended, causing a later review and an urge for people who usually comment on the show to talk

@avclub-4ffb0d2ba92f664c2281970110a2e071:disqus The vast majority of negative comments on here aren't attacking Dunham's work; they're attacking Dunham herself, which is a whole different matter and why people are jumping to defend her. It would be the equivalent of people going into a Tyler Perry review and mocking

Alright, sorry, the assholes comment was probably unnecessary; I posted that after spending like four hours in the depth of this board, I was fraying at the edges a bit. But the problem isn't that people who disagree are assholes; the problem is the manner of their disagreement, and the lack of constructive criticism

But you're judging this by your own perspective, rather than accepting that other people can relate to things that you might not be able to. Personally, I find a lot of the characters and their problems pretty applicable to myself and my life (to my shame, I'm far more of a Charlie than anything else). But I'm not

No, I definitely haven't seen such a concentrated, long-term, high volume run of comment hate; there's always a few trolls around (shoutout to COMMUNITY SUCKS!) but by and large, the number of people that keep coming back to let us know they still don't like the show or the leads is depressingly unreal.

One of us… One of us…

Have you seen this chocolatestigmata person? It's a woman (apparently) so I get why she's pissed about being called misogynistic, but her insistence that Dunham is selling her appearance, rather than her writing, is incredibly difficult to understand and kind of offensive.

@avclub-996de8a3d28df8b25f6cf2dfc7b5c699:disqus Oh, I don't think it was a comment on the show - sorry if I came off that way. I've been wading through that comment board all night, it can put you on edge. I just find the discussion of what words mean to other people and the unknowing subtext placed when people say

@avclub-996de8a3d28df8b25f6cf2dfc7b5c699:disqus I get that impulse, and you're probably right, but especially at the age these girls are at, "woman" is going to sound old and stuffy to them. And it doesn't roll off the tongue particularly well-  it's not as clunky as the always-creepy "female," but it still sounds
