and the duggars as the mutants
and the duggars as the mutants
i have that "oh shit" feeling
that it *will* stand for "after eli" and the fresh prince's little moppet will play denzel's great-great-something or other spreading the gospel in a post-apocalyptic world. (shudder)
wives of nascar fans?
if this isn't the end
of "myof" i suggest the elegantly stupid and blithely self important 'bickford shmeckler's cool ideas'. it's either one of the stupest movies ever made our the subtlest satire of undergrad philosiphizing ever commited to film like substance.
i'm sure it was intentional after reading 'cinderella's big score'. that abortive, shitheap of a book does no favors to women, popular music, or writing.
why you gotta shit on beat happening?
i gotta believe the beat happening chapter is in there as much for the music as it is for k records.
tough talk for a person making rpg jokes.
at least they realized their mistake…
in picking 'twentyeight days' over 'shawn of the dead' by tossing it in at the end of the 'twentyeight days' blurb. the irrevernt mix of humor and gore is more "midnight" than 'twentyeight''s straight up gore-drenalin rush. both are the fucking jam.
'a million little pieces' was one of the worst things i've ever crammed in my read holes. real, fake, somewhere in between is irrelevant since it was a shitty cut and paste job of 'requiem for a drem', permeanent midnight', 'trainspotting', and a handful of other drug related media. i hated hated hated that book.
he only had
one foot. lost it to diabetes. makes him kicking coke all the more impressive, no?
good news!
finally, we can watch a bunch of people sitting around reading instead of watching blandly designed, derivitive animated characters. another extremely average attempt from the c-minus-est show on television.
cartoons
hopefully someone else has mentioned these shows, but i don't feel like wading through the nearly six hundred other posts to find them, so i'll go ahead a say them (possibly) again:
cartoon network's 'the marvelous misadventures of flapjack' and nickelodeon's 'invader zim'.
i gotta disagree
i know hornsby created the characters and all, but i really feel like rob's figured things out at the end of 'high fidelity' and that he and laura will make it. maybe it's just wishfull thinking because i watched it so many times after my last mostly traumatic relationship ending, but rob seems to…
all grows'd up
being born in the early eighties meant i was just the right age to not be allowed to watch the mid-series installments of the 'friday the thirtheenth' and 'nightmare on elm street' franchises. the more they were forbidden, not just hte movies but the merch, too, the more i wanted to see them. alas i…
mclusky c-sides are better than most bands' b-sides and more bands' a-sides than should be allowable by law.
the tiny terror
i don't know what it was, my i was just overly rational as a kid, but i understood from a young age that movie monsters were just that: movie monsters. they weren't realy and jason, freddy, dracula, the wolfman, terminators of any stripe, and any other boogey man weren't coming to get me at camp, in…
it's been too long since rollins knocked danzig the fuck out. it's about time for another backstage beatdown. make it so, mr. king.
things you forgot in the fire
you totally skipped kvelertak's excellent self-titled debut in your mid-year round-up. combining the melodic heaviness of a baroness with the the spunky, rock vibe of a motorhead, and some gnarly, borline deathmetal sreaming it's one of the coolest sounding metal records i've heard in…
guitar gods
a few years ago that always reliable bastion of what-was-once rock, 'rolling stone', published a list of the so-called "greatest guitarists ever, of all time, forever" or some such bullshit. it was, as usual, a great big farty old pile of dinosaur guitar heros who have either driven their sound and style…
twofer
there are two shows that stick out in my mind for having missed them. the first was sleater-kinney on their tour for 'all hands on the bad one'. i'd just discovered them a year or so prior, but at the time there was no other band that i knew that combined the visceral spitnpiss attitude of the punk i was so…
