Yeah, it's not so much that I don't like 'Latch', but that there are a bunch of other songs on 'Settle' that I like a lot more.

I haven't heard this new album, but 'Settle' has some great guest vocalists-it's a shame that 'Latch' was the big crossover hit in the U.S., it's one of the least remarkable songs on the whole album.
I'm not gonna lie, I've said that Dave Chappelle line jokingly around the house often, and have joked with my sister about it. Totally agree about it being the right inflection/occasion for it, but I would never say it in public, even with the 'but I'm just quoting a TV show' defense.
Since SoundCloud and YouTube tend to be the primary ways I hear rap music, and they have been for some time, I rarely hear the radio edit of anything anymore. The first time I heard the radio edit of 'Gold Digger' I almost thought something was wrong with the audio. Same with that A$AP Rocky song Carlos is talking…
I'm so glad this show is back! A couple things:
I finished a dissertation chapter yesterday!
These are hilarious! Thanks for the heads up, I needed a laugh today.
Did you like it?
I am right on that 'certain age' cusp and my Facebook feed is disproportionately filled with baby pictures.
fwiw, I didn't watch the video and I still agree with USA. I was really looking forward to the episode, but it can wait-it's just TV.
I went the 'braids and cute afro twists' route and eventually grew it out. It didn't really occur to me at the time to just cut it off. Happy to shed some light!
Thanks-what a nice thing to say!
I don't know the history of the term, including how long it's been used, but us black ladies overwhelmingly refer to the process by which we stop chemically straightening our hair as 'transitioning'. It's funny that the term has always been completely separate to me, and the fact that it would be confusing outside of…
Finding an exception here and there doesn't disprove the original assertion being made.
What's even more fascinating is how this kind of characterization maps onto Hollywood cinema and the way narratives are constructed. I could write a ton of stuff about it because it's what I study, but your summary here is dead on. Good stuff.
Her beauty is almost distracting!
This was a weekly ritual for me from about age 13-20, and it of course has had a profound effect on my life.

We do! I started ballet at 18 and took class 2, sometimes 3 times a week for well over a decade and a half! I have a chronic condition that prevents me from dancing now, but I really loved it. A lot of ballet companies in major cities will have 'open classes', where you pay $15 or so and take class for 90 mins. The…
