*Cue the nukes*

Dikachu gave me a tub of something liquidy to eat, but it wasn't applesauce.

The Song Of Ice And Fire author took a break from thinking about finishing up The Winds Of Winter appearing at Comic Conventions, eating, and blogging about football to tell Metro that he’s just too busy to actually watch the show these days.

Ok, why is everyone accepting this is the endgame? This is a show (and book series) that actively undermines its own expectations. I don't think Beric Dondarrion randomly stumbled on the endgame. I think it's FAR more likely that the Night King is laughing (or whatever Night Kings do to show contempt and humor) at

Spoiler!!!!!

So… I think there's a HIGH chance that the show is misdirecting us. Everyone forgets all the blind turns and fake outs of the show for years. It ain't done.

It acknowledges that there's a show called Game of Thrones and a character called the Night King who may or may not be detestable, and whose defeat may or may not have consequences.

like what?

As someone not of European extraction, I enjoy getting names wrong like this. I know way too many white people who freak out if they see Korean, Chinese, or Indian names to not enjoy mispronouncing or spelling Jo(h)n, Kaitlyn/Caitlyn/Katlyn, etc.

The last five, I guess? You're one of those people?

“Look, it makes sense if you’ve read the books!"

Let's all thank Xenu that Kurt Sutter didn't have carte blanche for 80 minute episodes (before commercials factor in). Katy Sagal would still be singing.

Or Rickard/Brandon and Aerys. It could go in lots of directions. Hell, Aegon and Torrhen or whatever…

Didn't every previous "and the" title involve a betrayal leading to a death (occurring then or soon)?

I agree that it shouldn't be a premise anymore… but several recent films and TV shows seem to disagree. Curious, do you hate this because of the creative laziness or the sexism? Or something else?

I feel you. But, think about this - when they've had GRRM notes, they've actually done some GREAT work. The Hodor episode was handled perfectly, IMO, and that wasn't in print. I'm not sure how much of Cersei's exploits in the Sept will happen that way, but if that was from GRRM, that was another good example.

Nice snark. As someone who isn't a white man, and someone who believes that the patriarchy is a real problem, I'm not sure how you'd like me to respond. I probably agree with you on a lot. I just think this is a bad article.

I don't think it's that dire, narratively. Martin gave D&D notes on the endgame. I'm sure that includes a twist or trope reversal. The show of Baelor, the Red Wedding, and the Purple wedding won't end safely.

Scrawler, you're always a good voice of reason. How do you come out on the article itself?
