To me the problem with that movie is that the true stories are much more interesting.  So you get this phony story that uses the real music, the real fashions, the real character types… but essentially is completely soulless.  It really isn't any better than this movie probably is… just more artfully done.  It's

Just a small correction… Bowie played his last show with the Spiders From Mars band in the beginning of July 1973… and THEN he immediately recorded Pin Ups which wasn't released until later that year.  That recording heavily featured Mick Ronson… but drummer Mick Woodmansey was replaced by Aynsley Dunbar.

I didn't realize he wrote the Ishtar stuff!!  I love that movie (and the songs).  Truly a great songwriter and a fun character that will always remind me of being a kid.

It's true.  Especially bolstered by the fact that Mr. Marc Bolan plays on some tracks on their 3rd album (my personal favorite too).
