I'm so happy to have finally found people who loathe White Noise as much as I do. I read the novel in college for a course and tried to engage with it and find something about it I could connect with, but I just couldn't stand the thing. During class discussion it quickly became apparent that I was the only one who

Yeah, I thought it was strange that the review discussed the wording of the title, but made no mention of the LCD song. I suppose it's possible that it wasn't meant to be a direct reference, but it seems pretty unlikely.

I've actually always preferred Down on the Upside to Superunknown as an overall album, despite the latter containing some of my favorite Soundgarden songs.

At least Penguin released Songs Of A Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe as a single inexpensive volume a couple years back. Before that I was trying to track down used copies of both and never found either for less than a hundred bucks.

I had the exact same reaction. I really enjoyed Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman, but couldn't get into The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle or 1Q84. Maybe I'll give another one of his short story collections a shot, because his novels just didn't do it for me.

I finally got around to reading Jaws after loving the movie for decades, and I'm really glad I experienced the film first. Benchley should have named the novel, "Island Full of Assholes". Every major character is a shrill, whiny, duplicitous dickhead. A few chapters in and I was rooting for the damn shark.

Penzeys is awesome, both for their spices and for this:

This is why modern Art and I will never get along. That Hirst
painting looks like it could've been made by one of those spin art
t-shirt machines and it's selling for the same amount as two
modestly-priced homes.

The interesting thing is that black cats used to be considered good luck in Europe and were often employed as "ship's cats" to keep the rat population under control. Sailor's wives often sought them out as well, since it was believed that having them in the house would guarantee that the sailor would return home

"…rendering one of the friendliest and sincerest figures in the pop culture canon into something of a manipulative prick."

The Spotify app itself is free regardless of where you download it from.

"Surcharge" really isn't an accurate term. Apple isn't dictating the app price or adding a fee, they're taking 30% of the profit from Spotify the same way that they take it from all paid apps in the app store. Spotify could've sold their subscription for ten dollars and taken the hit themselves, but instead they

I'd have to go back and look at all the episodes, but I'd say anywhere from a quarter to a third of the show's overall run could be described as "primarily comedic".

All of Darin Morgan's stuff:

Oh lord, not this again. The poor guy can't get away from some album liner notes he wrote nearly 40 years ago.

While I'd argue that Ulrich is an interesting drummer, or at least was back in his heyday, he's always been plagued with inconsistent timing, unintentional shifts in tempo, and a somewhat sloppy approach to playing in general.

"Written and illustrated by Ryoko Iwata in a style reminiscent of The Oatmeal"

So no mention of Wild Flag in the paragraph recapping what the band members have been up to…alright then….
