What the fuck is juice?
Holy shit, that was him. I didn't see either Saving Private Ryan or Pitch Black in theaters, so by the time I was aware of who Vin Diesel was it never clicked that he was that voice.
For me it's a little different with Skarsgard. When he is the villain, you know it, but he can believably play non-villains as well. Isaacs is one of those people you just never fully buy when he tries to play good or even neutral; I consider this the reason why Awake couldn't catch on.
Matthew Modine is in kind of…
False again, on all counts.
What really perplexed me was that so many people were surprised to find out that it was Cruise. I mean, there's a lot of makeup there, but it's still recognizably Cruise, and of course he's not using a different voice at all.
In which he says only three words, so point reinforced, maybe?
"And yes, Tavington was a fucking bastard of a villain. He doesn't just
kill the younger lead, he kills his girlfriend and the entire family."
And he looked and sounded like Jason Isaacs, which doesn't hurt when you're trying to project villainy.
Movies shouldn't demand homework.
Does it even think about providing some explanation of the Necromongers? I'm not normally one who feels like a lot of exposition is necessary, but on the other hand, "Here's an ENORMOUS maybe-kinda-sorta undead cult army conquering the galaxy and no, we're not really going to tell you how that shit happened" isn't a…
I think too that Passion kind of knowingly had some advantages other foreign-language movies don't get. The basically guaranteed church-group audience, the curiosity about a big-screen adaptation of a Passion play, especially with a name as big as Gibson attached, that kind of stuff. In general, it was just the kind…
I don't think Gibson's the reason. Lethal Weapon is part of this series, and several other Gibson movies have been honorable mentions or better (I guess that's how you'd characterize The Road Warrior's position in the 1981 entry?).
It's a perfectly fine extended cameo, but at the time people were acting like it was the invention of the bread-slicer.
I don't want to be too harsh on the writer currently producing by far the best feature on the AV Club, but yeah how dare you* dump on Pitch Black.
"Douchebag didn't really become a common insult until the 2000s"
Nah, it was pretty established before then, it was just also unacceptable on TV until around that time.
Or his own standup comedy, especially his appearances on Roast Battle
And acted like an 1890s guy, if we're getting nitpicky
He looks astonishingly like Will Ferrell in the header pic.
Hell, Steve King's basically an honorary AZ representative.
