Barring a complete nosedive, season 5 of Breaking Bad will no doubt surpass season 5 of the Wire. As for the rest of 'em, it's certainly up for debate.

Agreed. The 2-disc version of Degradation Trip is a lot of terribly depressing (great) music.

The Mars Volta (two of the guys' follow-up band) is the same way. Some of their songs are "decodable," but others are just crazy; good music, though.
