After 30 years of fandom, I finally was able to see him live last year. He did not disappoint.

It is! I knew of most of the rappers mentioned (just by virtue of being alive at the time) but I think he gives enough context for non-rap fans (and drops big enough names) that it won't impact anyone's ability to enjoy the book.

I'll second that. It was one of those books that made me guffaw out loud on public transit. I'm not a rap aficionado by any stretch, my taste running more to metal and classical, but Karp is a sharp writer casting a critical eye on an unbelievable thing that happened to him.

The ending is fantastic IMO but man, it made me want to throw the book across the room the first time i read it. I want to watch this just to see how it's handled.
