I thought exactly the same thing. He looks like the weird guy who hangs out in front of the library.

As a 10 year old girl when Grease opened, my friends and I had many deep discussions about the "meaning" of them flying away in the car at the end.

I saw this movie in the theater with my 5th grade (girls) basketball team, when our coach treated us all to the show. He had obviously not pre-screened the movie. I distinctly remember, mid-way though the movie, our coach looking somewhat shocked and with his head in his hands. I think this was as much due to what I

    Insolvent Clown Posse?

Most of the intro is available in the preview to the translation on Amazon (though a few pages are omitted), including the "So" discussion, or at least the first paragraph of it.

Same here. I didn't know it was an anniversary show, and when I saw it was 20 years, I said out loud, "He went to CBS 20 YEARS AGO?". I lost a lot of sleep in my high school years watching Late Night.

For me it would be '84. Born in the USA, Purple Rain… ahh, the soundtrack of my youth.

Finally! A year I can relate to.
    C'mon everyone, join in:

Michigan! My husband and I always enjoy Climax while driving between his parents' house and mine on I-94.

When ToT became available on VHS, my mom showed it to her high school classes every year at Halloween. A generation of 1980's teens from southern Michigan are aware of Karen Black because of it.

Thanks, AV club, for giving away this plot point with the cover photo. I'm still waiting for last season to come out on Netflix!

Flowers was one of many totally inappropriate thriller/horror paperbacks passed on to me by my mom in my early teen years. I distinctly remember my 7th grade homeroom teacher's raised eyebrows at the reading materials I brought in to class. To her credit, though, she didn't confiscate any.

I saw this movie in its original run about the same time my parents bought my brother and I our first computer, a TI-99 hooked to our big console TV. The first thing I did with the TI was write a very simple BASIC program that started with the computer asking, "Would you like to play a game?", then you had to guess a

Am I remembering correctly that, for a while, NBC Thursday was Cosby, Family Ties, Cheers, and Hill Street Blues? Now that was appointment TV.

    I'll take a child-size soda, please.

I just woo-hood so loud, I startled my cat.

I, for one, welcome our new Ebert 2.0 overlord.

It was "officially" declared so by some all-time best country song countdown on a syndicated radio show back in the early 90's. I know because I have a vivid memory of listening to it while driving home from work on a very dark night in the middle of BFE, singing along at the top of my voice. RIP George.

Yeah, I know, and I generally do ignore them. But in this case  somehow I feel they are intruding on a family member's funeral.

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I just read that Westboro Baptist will be picketing at Roger Ebert's funeral. So, hey, more great news!
