I think it's meant to reinforce the idea that Baz appears threatening to people, both because of racial profiling (shown in the book's beginning) and because of the extraordinary circumstantial evidence against him after he drives the van into the auto factory from which he was recently laid off. Yeah, the Burger King thing is hilarious, but I just love stuff like that in general. The first time I saw the first Snapple bit in 30 Rock was the moment I fell in love with the show.
