Something Clever

Somehow I totally missed that

"Probably the criticism most frequently leveled at the The Flop House
is how willing its hosts are to descend into tangents of pure silliness
that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie they have gathered to
discuss"

Mark: "I'll give you what you asked for, but I want 15% more equity, and you have to give me an answer in the next 24 seconds"

I wanted to look forward to it because of Victor Fresco, but man that clip looks dire. It's going to take some really strong word of mouth to get me to tune in.

The whole Orb/Cube bit had me rolling.

We bid adieu to the great Werner Herzog on this week's Doug Loves Movies, much to my disappointment. He went out in glorious fashion though, in one of the better DLM eps in recent memory (though with a slightly anticlimactic Leonard Maltin Game). In honor of his 5 episode tour de force, one last round of quotes:

I kind of get that, but it's a perfectly Michael Scott moment. Making an already dated YouTube reference is absolutely something that Michael Scott would do. What makes it works is that the writers know it isn't clever, and they actually point that out, but it is perfectly in keeping with the show's characters.

One of my favorite things about PFT doing DLM is when somebody else tells a great joke, and you can always hear Tompkins loudly guffaw off-mike very distinctly in his own voice.

I loved it, and then the "*Extended Pause* Thumbs Down" just killed me. Perfect capper to that joke.

The only DLM eps I can see being tricky to follow are the ones that include CBB characters. I mean, the show has the occasional reference that you'll get if you've been listening for a while, but it's pretty straight-forward.

I want Werner Herzog to never, ever lose the Leonard Maltin game. This string of episodes has him rising quickly up the ladder of my favorite PFT characters. He just keeps absolutely crushing it on DLM. Also, while I enjoyed Retired Pope (who really does sound like Kumail) some of the time, I would listen to a

I laughed a lot at the visual of Leslie giving an angry speech and wagging her finger while the giant puppet of her did the same in the background.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with "It's just not for you". I find the dynamic between the 3 hosts to be pretty much a perfect balance. It's why I love the podcast so much.

That was fantastic. "I, of course, will be shipped a crate of them as soon as they arrive."

Yeah, I feel the exact opposite. I can only stand so much of YMIW, but I think he's always great on DLM. He and "Werner" made perfect foils for each other.

IT'S BEEN a great week for podcasts all around. The Flop House was fantastic, as is nearly always the case, particularly when they've got a Ca-age film to watch. CBB was absolutely delightful. DLM was the absolute highlight though. Holmes and "Herzog" playing off each other was the highlight of my week. Just absolute

That first time absolutely slayed me. It looked like Amy and Aziz had no idea it was coming, and then Schumer just killed it.

That's fantastic.

Agreed. It's getting way out of hand. I love me some John Hamm, and that ep had some good stuff in it, but I got halfway through and had to stop. It's just way too much, and that one was "only" 2 hours.

Agreed, last night was a great ep. I'm kind of surprised that I find myself wishing the AVC would cover this show, if only so that I can have a place to come discuss it afterwards. So far, I think it's looking much better than the past seasons. I'm missing Cee-Lo's insanity, but the two new judges both are bringing a
