I loved the Our Band Could Be Your Life book, but there's only one quote that's stuck with me all these years: The Minutemen: "If you ain't plain', you're paying'" (to describe why they don't schedule off days on tour).  So awesome.

When I first heard the Black Flag albums I just assumed that Greg Ginn was another horrible hardcore guitarist, only he was trying to play solos.  Once I found out he was going for a free jazz thing I heard the solos in a different context.  I had the same experience with the guitars in the Byrds' "Eight Miles High".

Noah Rodgers - fellow soldier of metal - I am totally and completely psyched for the new Baroness.  I wish they had a release date.

Amazon was running an insane $5 Mp3 sale on like everything.  I am finally catching up on:

Oh man, TOTALLY Baroness.  Blue Record might be in my Top 10 favorite metal albums of all time.  I'm dying to see them.

I hated all the glam stuff just like everyone else growing up.  But I thought the glam dudes they interviewed on Metal Evolution (Rikki Rocket, some guys from Warrant, Bobby Blotzer) came off pretty well. You know, like maybe we're not cut from the exact same cloth, but maybe it's from a close enough fabric. You know,

Ooh, I also want to point out "78 RPM" and "You Can't Say Crap On The Radio."

Thanks Snape.  Just checked them out.  Good stuff.

I picked up Talk Talk Talk used for like $3 a few years ago after admiring "Love My Way" for so long.  Awesome album (even if "Love My Way" isn't on it).  Dumb Waiters, Into You Like A Train, Pretty In Pink (superior to the later re-recorded version).  Great stuff.  What's the later album with Heartbreak Beat?  That

Funny to hear you say that.  I had the exact same reaction and always wonder whether I need to give Heaven Is Whenever another spin.  Honestly, it kinda just strikes me as being more of the same.  Still, I always pull for these guys.  Saw them with DBTs and they were a lot of fun.

Punks Not Dead.

Did they actually have anything besides "The Way" worth hearing?

True, but those first 3 Jane's albums (especially Nothing's Shocking and Ritual) are bulletproof.

I'm saying it: I kinda like "Jimmy Olsen's Blues".

Santa Monica, You Make Me Feel Like A Whore, and Heartspark Dollarsign were all pretty great songs.  Did the other two dudes do any songwriting or were they just along for the ride?

Really great book.  I read it right after "Everybody Loves Our Town" (which was about the Seattle music scene).  I needed to be picked up again after 600 pages of rain, depression, infighting, heroin, and suicide.

Is there any doubt that Malkmus will be smirking throughout the entire recording?  Is there anything he does that isn't snarky or ironic?  Sorry, but the guy just gets under my skin.

Were you hearing it for the first time?  It is indeed awesome.  If you really want to geek out Decibel magazine did a 10 page article a few months ago about the making of the album (and inducted it into the Decibel Hall of Fame).

Yup.  Live At Stubbs was a great album.  The fact that he was a Phish fan from NY was what gave the album its unique sound.  He obviously loved the music and was coming from the heart.  I didn't like the studio albums I heard though.

You could put out a rock solid double disc Tom Petty greatest hits set with no filler.  He's not my favorite, but you've gotta respect that.
