Favorite Sonic Youth song ever:
Skinny dipping in a sea of Lee….
Come on Lobsters, even if you hate Sonic Youth, you don't give them any credit for a 30 year run?
Not bad Owl. You named two guys and got them both wrong.
Listening now and I like it a lot. This is something I'll def. pick up. It's not even available on Amazon. Is it even out yet? Thanks for the tip Zombie.
Ha ha, thanks buddy. I feel like we're back in junior high, and the guys in the denim jackets are in the back of the class ignoring the discussion.
Hip hop has ALWAYS been about the hottest trend at that moment. That's why rappers fade into obscurity 99.9% of the time. Rock is a little less concerned about being the "hottest in the street."
@KidvanDanzig, that book also gave Sonic Youth props for not falling into the drugs trap that many of the peers did.
"You can just dub step your ass back out those pearly gates, you Philistean!"
Yeah. It's not like rappers ask the audience if they're ready to rap.
There's already kind of a retro grunge movement (Yuck, Cage The Elephant, etc.)
Of course, we're saying 'grunge', but real grunge is stuff like the Melvins and Tad and maybe Mudhoney. I guess we mean an "alternative" revival. (I'm not trying to stand on ceremony. I just read "Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral…
@avclub-b9a8f4af85454f7c56c06f0a39e7ec23:disqus, another great thing about being a music fan in 2011 is that you can buy used CDs from Amazon for like $3 or $4 a pop. It's actually cheaper than buying the MP3s.
Shook Ones Pt. II is so great that even the version that Everlast did on his acoustic guitar on the "Loud Rocks" album is fantastic. Seriously. One of the all time great classics (Mobb Deep's version, that is).
How do you like it? I really liked his Dr. Lecter release.
Please don't forget Staind. They simply must share some blame here.
I think I'm like a lot of you guys in that I'm much more of an 80s/90s hip hop fan. But Lil Wayne had a pretty incredible 05-08 run that rivals some of the best (The Carter II LP, Da Drought 3 mix tape, Dedication 2 mix tape, The Carter 3 mix tape, The Carter III LP). You guys should check it out.
In college I took a Persuasive Writing course with a 70 year old semi famous author. I told him my band played alternative and classic rock. He just could not wrap his head around how something could be alternative and classic at the same time. I think he wanted to flunk me right there.
I was about to call you out for ignoring music, but then I realized I've done the exact same thing with TV and movies. I know there are incredible movies out there, and I know we're in a golden age of television, but I can't stomach the thought of trying to keep up with it all. Yet with music I'm reading AV Club,…
I always forget about their Juvenille Hell album. "Hit It From The Back" was a pretty decent track. I Think they were like 15 or 16 on that album.
