i doubt most of the current writers even remember those references anymore.

i actually barely made it out of the first episode of Utopia - i hate torture, and the first episode had it in spades, including one extended and pretty detailed scene. It's a shame, seems like something i'd like otherwise, but i'm older now and that stuff gets to me in a way it didn't used to.

i agree, to a point - i'm saying the sound they were trying to accomplish was hampered by Nigel Godrich's sterile production. His touch is just too clean and manicured to truly let the tribal-ness come through. Hmmph.

KOL as an album seems like something was lost in translation in the studio - the live recordings are tremendous, but the album mixes are bland. i partly blame Nigel Godrich - his glitchy production sensibility has worked for a lot of their post-OK stuff, but i think this album needed a different approach.
