It was more of a highly realistic depiction of birth, made incredibly startling by being placed in the middle of a superhero…

The issue of Alan Moore's Miracleman where the main character's wife gives birth was pretty amazing, presenting the process in full, gynecological detail, making the process seem scary and gross, but also very beautiful. Great artwork by Rick Veitch too.
