@avclub-9024f9f0a80d2d248c7c6efb2e715c37:disqus I think saying "I enjoyed it" is perfectly fine, but I don't understand all the people vehemently saying that it was completely true to the character.

Exactly. It didn't seem like ANY of those characters really enjoyed fighting the way they did in the movie. Even with Rorschach it was a compulsive obsession he took pride in.
I actually really like that Superman (and most superheroes) get constantly reinterpreted, but I think the overriding characteristic of Superman is his love of humanity, and this dour film didn't reflect that enough.
No, it's fine. I'm kinda grumpy because I was trying to be civil for the longest time and then was repeatedly insulted. I apologize and will try not to let myself get dragged down by a troll again.
I'd agree it's not terrible if you're indifferent or a casual fan of Superman. If this wasn't based on something I really enjoy I'd shrug it off easier. I don't think it was the worst thing ever, but I really had my hopes up.
@avclub-2cfc7c2a1eabaff9fdcc09b009e8edad:disqus I disagree with him on points, including some things he liked, but the thing that most people are upset about is well addressed there. Someone linked to the Chris Sims review and I think that brought the best point against the movie I've seen.
I really hated the way he handled Nite Owl. He just seemed too gleeful beating people up.
The Byrne years also had him as a novelist… not sure where that fits in.
@avclub-df80f70f60b1c678f8c91696f4a54f5f:disqus I've disagreed with a lot of people on this page. You're the only one to act like a troll.
There's a lot of threads saying this very thing, and a lot of replies to them.

I'm not saying DC forced anyone to do anything, it was the movie company wanting corporate synergy. The Jim Lee Superman is the public image so making the movie reflect that is mutually beneficial.
Too true @avclub-146bc30c345d31f3468fec764a1970e1:disqus . Also the use of Kingdom Come made me think he had never read it.
"I have a little theory that you can go some way to judging the quality of a work by the quality of the arguments for and against it."
No, please, make more bold, intelligent comments about 'whichever one blows up the most you'll go see' or how someone 'won' because they saw Fast Six and calling me a manchild.
@avclub-df80f70f60b1c678f8c91696f4a54f5f:disqus Fine I'm taking the bait again.
They were probably forced to go with the recent Jim Lee New 52 look, which didn't do any of the major DC characters any favors, except maybe Flash (in his own book, not in JL).
I think that approach could actually make an interesting Superman film but I don't think that would work for most DC heroes. I don't think you could do a decent Flash film without an affable Barry/Wally at the center.
There's a ton of crappy movies about alien invaders already and even some good ones. I wanted a good movie about Superman.
@avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus I'm trying really hard to be civil on these threads and not resort to any namecalling or hexes. This guy has been insulting me, but at least he's passionate and engaged with the topic, unlike the troll I accidentally fed below.
