My favorite will always be "Sad Bobby", which I believe was either Bobby #2 or #3. That kid looked incredibly morose in every scene he was in. He must have been constantly terrified of January Jones.

@Merve2:disqus For me, the screaming is part of the appeal of Matt Berninger's vocals. He can do the quiet crooning, and then he can go crazy and unhinged.
I always loved Cornell's singing, but it wasn't enough for me on Scream. I get what you're saying about his voice, though. That's how Mark Lanegan is for me. I know some of the music on his newest album turned some people off, but I would buy an album of Lanegan reading the phone book just to listen to his voice.

Like I said, I get your argument about Mirage. And I'm not personally discounting any of the ones I mentioned (other than maybe GL), just saying that I think those are all ones that could have a strong argument made for being weaker—Mirage included. Overall, I think the general mass consensus is that those albums…
Well we can definitely agree on how great "Sad Songs" is at least. So wait, people don't like "Available"? That's probably my favorite song off the album.
I'm a big Soundgarden fan and I really like Chris Cornell, but I have to disagree with you on Scream. More power to him if he wants to experiment and expand his sound, but I thought it was a disaster. At times hilarious and at others just flat out bad.

Oh man, I love High Violet. Not quite as amazing as Boxer or Alligator, but I'd rank it third, and all three are fantastic (and Sad Songs wouldn't be far off in fourth). The self-titled is the weakest, but that doesn't really fit this scenario since it is more a band finding their sound, and not an established band…
I can see the argument for Mirage, but it's not the one I'd pick because I like it well enough. There are a few MP albums that could fit into this role (Golden Lies, Monster, Forbidden Places), though I personally don't consider any of them "bad" albums.
Mule Variations is great. My choice for Waits would be "The Black Rider".
I think I'll probably pass, at least for now. I agree that the story seemed to work fine as a standalone novel. I looked at a few of the plot details for the sequel and it didn't seem too enticing.

I saw "The White Album" and my head exploded.
I feel like everyone is somehow forgetting Pablo Honey.
Yeah @avclub-0f0d67e214f9fef69b278e3d08114da9:disqus is right on. Classifying Undertow as the "worst" album just because it isn't as awesome as the other ones doesn't give it the credit it deserves.

@tcote76:disqus Heck yeah, I will always go to bat for Outside. Definitely one of Bowie's most underrated/overlooked albums. Sure, it's not one of his very best, and it's bloated at times, but there are some great songs on there.
