It's especially funnysad since she HATED Ted's propensity for stagey romantic stuff, which was infinity times less stagey and creepy than anything Barney's EVER done.

He explicitly tells them they have to take it because he's afraid they're going to forget him.

It's also shitty that they're vacillating so wildly on whether Barney can or can't be a grown-ass adult. Making him more cartoonish and Robin far less so, really abruptly, is some sad character writing.

Liked for use of relevant yet extremely universal idea of agency. Did we go to any college in the world's Philosophy 100 class at any time in history . . . together . . . ?

@avclub-eac75edc18b8546c46893fe4b75ab995:disqus Let's not make promises that are no fun to keep.

Yeah . . . It's not a reality show?

Or our shekels. Or . . . shackles?

"Not a cookie bar."

Has Suburgatory been renewed or not? So many finale feelings in this! No answers on Wikipedia!!

The episode felt like one line delivered in the world's biggest shipping crate, stuffed with really dumb packing peanuts. Yeah, the statement felt real, but if they're going to stagger one important line per entire dumb episode, it's going to be a Long Home Stretch.

@avclub-b0dae075785888267fc19871f3e7dab7:disqus — Yeah . . . The storytelling/aesthetic discussion made me change my mind about the show, is kind of the point? Don't know what you're talking about otherwise.

@avclub-ade723a6815e7dffd777dfb9719c8ad3:disqus, I loved what TNC wrote about it. Yes. And I like what you said about that being such a banal observation as to be almost negligible — I can't figure out what the real root of all this overwrought negative energy is. Even the comment below ours here is guilty of that.

Okay, let's dialogue about it because I have some changing opinions.

The idea that the characters are just repulsive and you don't enjoy spending time with them is the one blanket critique I completely respect and understand. It's so interesting to see the divide between people who say, "Oh my gosh, I am/was this person/my friends are/were just like this" and people who could never be

How weird that someone held a gun to your head five minutes after this piece went up.

This is so good. Thank you.

The amount that Jess Mariano is CRITICAL to this show cannot be overstated. When he comes back and Rory is, well, never mind, but you know, and he's so important right then.

I thought he was hot and sweetly awkward and not a very good actor, but it definitely makes me feel gross that the first nonwhite no-name hookup I can remember on this show is inspiring people to call him "rapey"

@avclub-7833d176ad6f6dde5efc95848e6f47a8:disqus For the record, I'm a straight lady, and Stevens' total lack of enthusiasm and hilarrible dye job are both dealbreakers.
